What is the best go-to vegetable ever?

After years of discussion, this needs a definitive answer that does not concern itself with individual taste. Just listing of vegetables.
The answer is clearly, the carrot.
Wholesome versatility, from fresh juices to robust roasts, to sweet cakes to decoration of fictitious snowmen that post-Greta TRUTHS have rendered but a dream. And knob gags.
As an added bonus, carrots allow the billionth WHO mention of Jethro Tull, the man not the bande of wizened mead-reeking trampes.

Depends what you’re after. If it is taste, then the spud. Hard to top mash and chips....and crisps of course.
If it is advice about space and time, then Hawkins is your go to without question.

There's mash, there's chips, there's hash browns - America's only meaningful contribution to breakfast cuisine, there's baked in jacket (bit of a trick one here - with out a shed-load of butter they belong in the green bin), there's roasties, there's crisps, there's floury old boilers covered in gravy, there's those things you make by frying sliced up boiled potatoes, and, of course, there is anywhere between 35% and 65% of yer actual bubble. There's also those things that go on top of a Lancashire hot pot, I dunno what they are called.
All these are very good. Some are a class above very good.
But then there is pretentious shit like anna, hasselback, au gratin, lyonnaise, gnocci, duchesse - all these are shit, mostly suspiciously foreign shit, French shit ,even, a lot of the time. They should all be shunned.
But here's the thing. Even if you subtract the rubbishiness of the naff ones from the glory of the good one, you are still left with God's Own Vegetable.
